My College magazine uses the forms and conventions of real media products, as I have researched existing College magazine covers. I have taken characteristics of other magazines such as the positioning and overall composition of the images and what they represent, I have also taken the idea of a typing technique from existing magazines to make my writing stand out more, also to make my magazine look more interesting and professional. The simplicity of my heavily edited image against a white background compares to other magazines in the Media today. The basic use of props, lighting and representation in my image copies real media products, therefore making my own look more believable.
My College Magazine represents a specific social group of students. I have directed my magazine towards students, therefore I purposely chose a student to be in the photo. The glasses used in my photo are stereotyped with 'clever people', this wasn't purposely done to stereotype people, or insinuating that without glasses people aren't clever, however students are usually related to by wearing glasses, therefore I used this convention in my own work. Not only does this show representation, but also gave my photo a final touch. Even though my magazine is aimed towards Students, I purposely chose a newspaper to be featured in the image rather than the stereotypical book or folder. This was to represent individuality, and this could then also refer to an older audience. Therefore connotation is also used as it represents a positive outlook on society. The use of the newspaper also confirms that my Magazine isn't aimed at any specific gender, as football is featured on the front of my cover.
Therefore my audience would be both genders, and students who are willing to achieve. My magazine features different subjects, such as Photography and Sport, It also includes Trips and Parties, therefore my magazine is not sexist and refers to both. My slogan 'Buried Under Work?' refers to those who are finding it stressful with all the work, this also relates to my image of the figure cowering behind the newspaper, therefore this is specific to a certain target audience in this similar situation, however overall it refers to a wide range of the population.
I have chosen bright, bold text to make my magazine cover more eye-catching, my use of the large title not only grabs people's attention, but I have chosen an 'Old School' font, which also gives an inclination of what the magazine is about.
My editing was done very purposely, as I wanted to make the bright colours on front of the newspaper featured in the picture to stand out, therefore I think this worked successfully.
Through the process of constructing my College Magazine, I have learnt how to successfully use Photoshop and it's editing software, and learnt the aspects of how Graphology shows a certain representation or stereotype.I learnt how to use the blog software, and the full elements of a camera, including variety of angles. I have also learnt what magazine producers in the Media have to think through to produce a final cover, and all the conventions they have to consider, such as the size/style/colour of text, the composition of my images, and appropriate contents based on the chosen audience.
Overall, it think my College magazine cover and Contents page was successful, I think I put a lot of thought into my photo's in which representation they would foreshadow, also the use of conventions from existing magazines has worked well and made my magazine look more professional. If I was to re-do my magazine, i would perhaps chose a different font choice or colours, however overall I think it worked well.
