Analysis Of Existing Collage Magazines

Grimsby College Magazine.
This is a College Magazine for Grimbsy College named 'GX' magazine.
Language:The choice of colours here work well, as the blue and white contrast well together. However, a more appropriate choice of the Masthead colour could of been chosen more thoughtfully, as the white over the yellow skin tones blends in and makes it difficult to read. The alignment and position of the email works quite well as this captures your attention as it is in the middle, also the the grey writing against the white background is easily readable and bold.
However, below this there is blue text chosen, this blends in with the grey background and is not easily readable, also it is not very eye-catching and therefore won't be at an interest to read.
Ideology:Facial expressions are not apparent, therefore this is personal connotation as you can dictate what the expressions would appear as, this also highlights no age allowance, therefore represents that a range of ages are allowed to participate into the college.
Insitution: Grimbsy Collage consists of 1,350 members of staff and over 22,500 students. The College has the largest number of vocational qualifications in North East Lincolnshire.
Audience:Both a male and female model has been chosen here, this will of been chosen specifically to enhance the idea of equality and therefore this will appeal to both genders.
Representation:The choice of imagery is simple, yet works well as it reflects two students talking and defines some of the qualities of collage life such as social skills and communication.
The slogan at the bottom 'thewordonthestreet', this also suggests the fact that the collage has a different outlook of aspirations in comparison to Wyke Collage. Rather than encouraging those to aspire in further education such as universities, the collage reflects more hands on work, and it being referred to 'on the street' suggests it is less financial and academic, however will set you up for future life.
East Riding College Student Magazine.

This is the East Riding College Student Magazine named 'Student Life'.
Language: This magazine uses basic imagery, The main image, the text font and colour and the cover lines are all very basic. The use of the colour white for the text works well in contrast with the black background. The image is of a student previous trip to Berlin, this is simple, however uses extremely effective denotation as it is clearly advertising and publicising the trips, also the colour scheme in the photo such as the silhouettes contrast well with the blacks and whites of the Magazine as a whole.
The white text over the most illuminated and brightest part of the picture would not normally work, however due to the black text box behind it this is really effective and also eye-catching, Therefore i may develop this idea into my own work.
Ideology: The College's choice of imagery on the front reflects the proposition of seeing the world, and learning through exploring throughout different environments, morals and beliefs. Therefore this college, Like Grimbsby, influences more hand on tasks.
Institution: East Riding College consists of 1,500 students applying per year. They are located in areas such as Beverly, Bridlington and Hull.
Audience: The chosen imagery used in this looks like the majority are of a male population, however this could appeal to both genders, as both genders could be interested in the subject, and the colours/imagery/context aren't aimed at any specific gender group. The magazine will also be aimed towards those interested in starting at East Riding College or those that are currently studying there however wanting to know about the latest events in which to participate.
Representation:  As mentioned in my Ideology, the choice of imagery represents the idea of hand of self-learning and observation, it represents the College as willing to accept new ideas and ways of learning, it also enhances the idea of adventure as it publicises the College's ability to explore and get out of College to learn.
